City Connection Reflection

This is my city connection reflection. I did my connection about the village where I was born and I have lived all my life, Voorschoten. Voorschoten is in the Netherlands, and I have searched information about it and I made a presentation about it. And now it is my job to make a reflection about it on my blog. I am doing two questions that I thought were most important and those are 'What did you do well on the project?' and 'What did you learn from the city connections of others?'.

I think I did well in searching information and presenting the powerpoint. I searched everywhere I could, and I also asked my mom, auntie and dad if they new anything about Voorschoten. In the end I collected all the information and put it all together in the powerpoint. When I presented it I was excited and quite confident that I would get quite a good grade.

I learned a lot about the cities that my class mates chose. For example where they are, what there culture is, what the history is and so on. I was very interested to learn a little about where my classmates are from or where they have lived. All the presentations were so different from the other, it is hard to decide which is the best. It was fun listening to all of them, and I enjoyed the assignment!

I hope you liked my blog, and of course that you flashed a smile while reading ;)

My learning Profile

Today it's all about learning. How do I learn better? What ear, eye, hand or leg is dominant? If I answer these questions I can find out what profile I am. My profile is LL. This means that I can get distracted easily, I need activities to keep up in the lesson and I need some quiet time when I'm stressing out.
Someone with a LL profile is a kinesthetic learner, that means that it helps for him/her to learn when moving or doing activities. This is something that I really recognize in myself.

I learn best when I am doing activities or I can actually touch/feel/do it myself. When I can relax when doing my homework or class work I don't get distracted easily and I get it done faster. I also learn faster when I'm having fun, so sometimes I do my homework with friends so we can discuss what we have to accomplish and what is right and wrong.

I need to sit in an angle to the front of the class. This makes me more comfortable in my chair. This can help me learn because I’m comfortable and if I have enough space to move I can concentrate better. For me it doesn't matter if I sit at the front or the back of the class, either is good.

The strategies that help me in my learning are to do exercises before a test, for example stretching my hands. During a test, I like to stretch my legs a bit to keep myself going. When learning about I new subject, I like to experience the story myself in a way so I can imagine it better. Or drawing on the board as an example is also a way to help me imagine the situation.

I would like teachers to know that I like music for assignments like writing blogs and such. I also can get distracted easily when I hear zippers and pencils falling on the table. When I hear something like that I always look up to see what happened, and it makes it harder for me to carry on with what I was doing.

I hope this was an interesting blog for you to read. Good luck with finding your learning profile!

My Winter Break Adventures

Hi everyone! Well, what can I say? 2010 has gone by in no time. Our assignment this time is to write the first blog of the year! This blog is about our winter break and New Year's resolutions. In the break I had written mine already, but it was more of a 'What do I want to do in 2011' kind of thing. But I will think of some things I want to write down. My winter break was in fact great! I got to meet up with my family and have lots of fun. Christmas was a blast, and New Year was okay. So let me tell you all about it in the rest of the blog.

So first my resolutions for this year. The assignment was originally 2, but I have three I want to share. So my first is to accept god's choices he makes. I chose this one because this past year I have had a very hard time dealing with the big move. I was depressed and didn't know better, I even asked my dad to quit his job. But I didn't realize we didn't have the choice to go. I guess life is hard, and this is the time I have to experience it.

My second and third are very basic though, they are to keep my room tidy and to work on my English grammar. To explain the first one, well, I have a very messy room. When I clean it up, it always becomes a mess afterwards. And obviously my mom gets annoyed with me. But I don't want to have a bad reputation to my mom so I'm trying to keep up my 'tidy' skills. To explain the second one, basically my English grammar isn't the best. Although I speak English fine, I have trouble spelling words in the right way, I say sentences in the wrong order, and lots more. This is mostly because I have spent my whole life in Holland and in local Dutch schools. What my family calls it, I speak Denglish (Dutch-English). I'm not the only one though. My sister and brother, 20 and 17 also sometimes speak Denglish. So I'm kind of used to it.

As I said in the first paragraph, my winter break was great. The high light was definitely that my sister came all the way from Holland! She arrived in the evening on Christmas day, we had a delicious Christmas Dinner (not the traditional with roast vegetables and that sort of stuff, we did have turkey and ham though) and after that we watched TV and opened presents. My best present of all was, well, my sister coming. That was a real good gift that I will never forget :). But now the presents under the Christmas tree. The best of all were my Swatch and my Thomas Sabo necklace. I know I know, I do feel spoiled! I mean, Thomas Sabo is a really expensive brand and my Swatch is beautiful, what more can you get? Well, family and friends, but I'm leaving that out now. For the rest I got wonderful stuff but these were my favorite. In the rest of the Holiday we went to Pangkor for 2 or 3 days before New Year. It would have been more fun at Pangkor though, the fireworks at New Year. Because I didn't get the best view of the fireworks. And my watch was on the wrong time so I said "Happy New Year!" and hugged everyone a minute to early... That was kind of embarrassing. After that my sister left on the 5th, and then we come to today.

So I had a great time in the winter break. I hope you liked my blog and flashed a smile while you read it. I don't know why but I kind of think my 'writing style' has changed. Do you think so? Please leave a comment ;) Bye!
